* Reapply "[Build] Do not invalidate configuration cache when branch is switched (#118894)" (#119300)
The original PR (#118894) has broken serverless.
* Fix gitinfo plugin for serverless usage
* Update buildscan git revision reference
The libs projects are configured to all begin with `elasticsearch-`.
While this is desireable for the artifacts to contain this consistent
prefix, it means the project names don't match up with their
directories. Additionally, it creates complexities for subproject naming
that must be manually adjusted.
This commit adjusts the project names for those under libs to be their
directory names. The resulting artifacts for these libs are kept the
same, all beginning with `elasticsearch-`.
* Make forbidden apis check cacheable and cc compatible
* Port CheckForbiddenApiTask to use worker api
* Simplify runtime classpath for CheckForbiddenApisTask
Removing the custom dependency checksum functionality in favor of Gradle build-in dependency verification support.
- Use sha256 in favor of sha1 as sha1 is not considered safe these days.
Closes https://github.com/elastic/elasticsearch/issues/69736
This PR reworks the testing conventions precommit plugin. This plugin now:
- is compatible with yaml, java rest tests and internalClusterTest (aka different sourceSets per test type)
- enforces test base class and simple naming conventions (as it did before)
- adds one check task per test sourceSet
- uses the worker api to improve task execution parallelism and encapsulation
- is gradle configuration cache compatible
This also ports the TestingConventions integration testing to Spock and removes the build-tools-internal/test kit folder that is not required anymore. We also add some common logic for testing java related gradle plugins.
We will apply further cleanup on other tests within our test suite in a dedicated follow up cleanup
Most of the Jackson uses, eg in x-content and azure, have already been
upgraded. This commit upgrades the rest of the uses. Note that it does
not yet upgrade the aws sdk, this should also be done on its own.
Mockito 4.0 removes several deprecated methods. This commit updates
usages of those deprecated methods and upgrades mockito. The changes
include: * Replace anyMapOf,anyListOf,anySetOf,anyCollectionOf with the
same method name without `Of` and no longer taking any arguments. *
Replace anyObject with any * Removing argument from isNull * Replace
verifyZeroInteractions with verifyNoMoreInteractions The changes here
were completely mechanical, done entirely with forms of find/replace
within IntelliJ.
Matchers is deprecated in Mockito, in favor of the newer
ArgumentMatchers class. In fact, internally Matchers just extends
ArgumentMatchers as all the methods there were moved. This commit
changes all imports of org.mockito.Matchers to
org.mockito.ArgumentMatchers.
Securemock is a wrapper around Mockito that monkey patches internals of
Mockito to work with the SecurityManager. However, the library has not
been updated in several years due to the complicated nature of this
monkey patching. This has left us with an ancient version of Mockito,
missing out on updates to the library in the last half decade.
While Securemock currently works with Mockito 1.x, in 2.x an official
means of plugging into mockito was added, MockMaker. This commit removes
securemock as a dependnecy of the test framework, replacing it with a
modern version of Mockito, and implementing a MockMaker that integrates
with SecurityManager.
Note that while there is a newer version of Mockito available, 4.0, it
has several deprecations removed that are used throughout Elasticsearch.
Those can be addressed in followups, and then a subsequent upgrade to
4.0 should be possible.

- Use file property and conventions to avoid afterEvaluate hook
- Simplify root build script
- One little step closer to configuration cache compliance
This commit switches the security and identity-provider plugins to use
v4.0.1 of the OpenSAML library (upgraded from v3.4).
In order to facilitate this upgrade the following changes are also
made:
- Common Codec is upgraded to 1.14 across all modules
- Guava is upgraded to v28.2 in the 2 affected modules

The recent upgrade of the Azure SDK has caused a few test failures that
have been difficult to debug and do not yet have a fix. In particular, a
change to the netty reactor resolving
(https://github.com/reactor/reactor-netty/issues/1655). We need to wait
for a fix for that issue, so this reverts commit
6c4c4a0ecb.
relates #73493
This moves the public build api and plugins into a separete included build called 'build-tools'
and we removed the duplication of included buildSrc twice (2nd import as build-tools).
The elasticsearch internal build logic is kept in build-tools-internal as included build which allows us better handling of this project that its just being an buildSrc project (e.g. we can reference tasks directly from the root build etc.)
Convention logic applied to both projects will live in a new build-conventions project.
This commit upgrades the Azure SDK to 12.11.0 and Jackson to 2.12.2. The
Jackson upgrade must happen at the same time due to Azure depending on
this new version of Jackson.

This commit introduces data_content, data_hot, data_warm,
data_cold, and data_frozen to the low level REST client (LLRC).
Since the LLRC only cares about dedicated masters this change
simply makes the LLRC aware of the new roles and does not have
any functional impact. The tests have been adjusted accordingly.
As per the new licensing change for Elasticsearch and Kibana this commit
moves existing Apache 2.0 licensed source code to the new dual license
SSPL+Elastic license 2.0. In addition, existing x-pack code now uses
the new version 2.0 of the Elastic license. Full changes include:
- Updating LICENSE and NOTICE files throughout the code base, as well
as those packaged in our published artifacts
- Update IDE integration to now use the new license header on newly
created source files
- Remove references to the "OSS" distribution from our documentation
- Update build time verification checks to no longer allow Apache 2.0
license header in Elasticsearch source code
- Replace all existing Apache 2.0 license headers for non-xpack code
with updated header (vendored code with Apache 2.0 headers obviously
remains the same).
- Replace all Elastic license 1.0 headers with new 2.0 header in xpack.
This commit converts build code that downloads distributions or other
artifacts to use the new no-kpi subdomain, and removes the formerly used
no-kpi header.
- Use java-library instead of plugin to allow api configuration usage
- Remove explicit references to runtime configurations in dependency declarations
- Make test runtime classpath input for testing convention
- required as java library will by default not have build jar file
- jar file is now explicit input of the task and gradle will ensure its properly build
* Remove usage of deprecated testCompile configuration
* Replace testCompile usage by testImplementation
* Make testImplementation non transitive by default (as we did for testCompile)
* Update CONTRIBUTING about using testImplementation for test dependencies
* Fail on testCompile configuration usage
This is another part of the breakup of the massive BuildPlugin. This PR
moves the code for configuring publications to a separate plugin. Most
of the time these publications are jar files, but this also supports the
zip publication we have for integ tests.
Another Jackson release is available. There are some CVEs addressed,
none of which impact us, but since we can now bump Jackson easily, let
us move along with the train to avoid the false positives from security
scanners.
Currently forbidden apis accounts for 800+ tasks in the build. These
tasks are aggressively created by the plugin. In forbidden apis 3.0, we
will get task avoidance
(https://github.com/policeman-tools/forbidden-apis/pull/162), but we
need to ourselves use the same task avoidance mechanisms to not trigger
these task creations. This commit does that for our foribdden apis
usages, in preparation for upgrading to 3.0 when it is released.
Re-applies the change from #53523 along with test fixes.

We mades roles pluggable, but never updated the client to account for
this. This means that when speaking to a modern cluster, application
logs are spammed with warning messages around unrecognized roles. This
commit addresses this by accounting for the fact that roles can extend
beyond master/data/ingest now.
Closes#48724. Update `.editorconfig` to make the Java settings the default
for all files, and then apply a 2-space indent to all `*.gradle` files.
Then reformat all the files.
hamcrest has some improvements in newer versions, like FileMatchers
that make assertions regarding file exists cleaner. This commit upgrades
to the latest version of hamcrest so we can start using new and improved
matchers.
This change updates our version of httpclient to version 4.5.8, which
contains the fix for HTTPCLIENT-1968, which is a bug where the client
started re-writing paths that contained encoded reserved characters
with their unreserved form.
The apache commons http client implementations recently released
versions that solve TLS compatibility issues with the new TLS engine
that supports TLSv1.3 with JDK 11. This change updates our code to
use these versions since JDK 11 is a supported JDK and we should
allow the use of TLSv1.3.
